The gaia/profile directory only contains settings.json in the builds from bug 812836 (both dev and localizer), which are available on the FTP here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/.

I was just poking around at builds for other platforms. Both Windows and Mac appear to have a full profile. However, Mac repro'ed this problem immediately and Windows repro'ed it on second run (First run showed the Mozilla + FirefoxOS logos, then whitescreened). This makes me think that the black screen problem is either not related to the profile, or that there's deeper issues with the profiles included in these builds.

This bug blocks having functioning multilocale (dev+localizer) builds. Marking it as C2, and asking for blocking-basecamp. Fabrice, Stas - I'd really appreciate some input here, I have no idea how to debug this.

Happy to help, but I don't really understand what's failing here. Can you provide me STR (which build downloaded form where, which platform) so I could check the profiles?

You should be able to repro with any of these builds: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/2012-12-03-03-03-57-mozilla-beta/b2g-18.0.en-US.linux-i686-localizer.tar.bz2 https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/2012-12-03-03-03-57-mozilla-beta/b2g-18.0.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2 https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/2012-12-03-03-03-57-mozilla-beta/b2g-18.0.en-US.linux-x86_64-localizer.tar.bz2 https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/2012-12-03-03-03-57-mozilla-beta/b2g-18.0.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/2012-12-03-03-03-57-mozilla-beta/b2g-18.0.en-US.mac64-localizer.dmg https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/2012-12-03-03-03-57-mozilla-beta/b2g-18.0.en-US.mac64.dmg https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/2012-12-03-03-03-57-mozilla-beta/b2g-18.0.en-US.win32.zip

I'm happy to help however I can, but I think Fabrice knows best how to debug this for now. Does that sound right to you, Fabrice?

Yep, I will look into that, and defer if I can't find anything.

Stas and I were just looking bug 818032 and discovered that the Gaia build system is cleaning up too much when working out of an hg gaia clone: https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/blob/master/Makefile#L190 We're pretty sure this is causing the problem, and Stas is working on a fix.

The change in lines 178-180 > will require changes to on your side of the build process. I confirmed that b2g desktop builds are already using absolute paths to the languages file, and I just updated the scripts that do device builds to do the same. You're clear to land whenever you're ready as far as I'm concerned.
