I think string [trim | trimLeft |  trimRight ] where added for 1.8, but aren't in the "New in JS 1.8" page.

That's not correct.  trim() and friends are new in 1.8.1, which will ship with Firefox 3.1.

John, I'm willing to call this done if you are.  The JSAPI documentation for 1.8 is in good shape.
