Found in

  • 108.0a1 (2022-11-10)

Affected versions

  • 108.0a1, 107.0, 106.0.5

Tested platforms

  • Affected platforms: Windows 10, macOS 12, Ubuntu 20.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox and go to https://www.nih.gov/about-nih
  2. Scroll down and click on the Facebook/Instagram/Youtube/etc link.
  3. Click "OK" in the displayed prompt.
  4. Close the new opened tab and repeat steps 2 and 3 until the "Don't allow www.nih.gov to prompt you again" check box is displayed in the prompt.
  5. Check the "Don't allow www.nih.gov to prompt you again" option and click ok.
  6. Close the new opened tab and repeat steps 2.

Expected result

  • The new Facebook/Instagram/Youtube/etc tab should be opened without displaying the prompt.

Actual result

  • Nothing happens. The Facebook/Instagram/Youtube/etc links are not working anymore.

Regression range
This is not a regression since I can reproduce it in Fx 60 as well.

Additional notes

  • The links are working accordingly by right-clicking on them and select Open Link in New Tab.
  • The issue cannot be reproduced in Chrome or Edge since the "Don't allow www.nih.gov to prompt you again" check box is not displayed at all there.

We appreciate your report. I was able to reproduce the issue.

Tested with:

Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 111.0a1 (2023-01-19) (64-bit) / Chrome Version 109.0.5414.75 (Official Build) (64-bit)/Microsoft Edge Version 108.0.1462.76 (Official build) (64-bit)
Operating System: Windows 10 PRO x64

Notes:

  1. Reproducible regardless of the status of ETP.
  2. Reproducible on the latest build of Firefox Nightly and Release.
  3. The issue cannot be reproduced in Chrome or Edge since the "Don't allow www.nih.gov to prompt you again" check box is not displayed at all there.
