Preconditions
Have the persist feature enabled (browser.urlbar.showSearchTerms.featureGate set to true).

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. Perform a search using the address bar or load any website.
  3. Open a new tab.

Expected result

  • Address bar is empty.

Actual result

  • The search term or website address is displayed in the new tab.

Regression range

Rejecting the 107 tracking request. Regressor is only in 108.

Fairly certain it's because I removed a try/catch block I originally added and that I thought no longer needed in my code refactor. Will submit a patch soon.

Modify getSearchTermIfDefaultSerpUri to allow string input and not throw when passed about protocols - r=adw

The issue is verified fixed using Fx108.0b4 and Fx109.0a1 on Windows 10 and Ubuntu 22.04. Persist search term is not displayed in newly opened tabs without input.
