Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox and go to a pdf, for example https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf .
  2. Select the Text button and insert some text on pdf.
  3. Click on print button from pdf toolbar.
  4. Save the document via Save to PDF.
  5. Open the saved PDF in Firefox and select the previously inserted text.

Expected result

  • Text is selected.

Actual result

  • Text is not selected.

Regression range

  • Not a regression since this is a new feature.

Notes

  • Instead of selecting the text, the tooltip is shown. On Windows, when saving via Microsoft Print to PDF, the inserted text can be selected but not the original one from the form. Please see attached video for more details.
Has STR: --- → yes
Severity: -- → S4

What is the behavior like on Adobe Acrobat and Edge?

On both Adobe Acrobat and Edge - on macOS 12 - the behaviour is the same as in Firefox. Can't select newly input text nor any other text.

Priority: -- → P3

The text must be made available in a kind of TextLayer to allow to select it or to make it searchable.
