Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to www.cbsnews.com and click on any news category from the Live section(e.g. https://www.cbsnews.com/live/)
  2. Do not click the PLAY button on the video
  3. While the PLAY button is still displayed on the video, click on the PiP toggle

Expected result

  • The PiP window is opened and the preview video is playing.

Actual Result

  • The PiP window is opened, but it closes after a few seconds.

The preview (when the big play button is displayed) seems to be a separate video that is then unloaded after we press the play button. The pagehide event is called, which results in closing the PiP window (searchfox). Another video is loaded afterwards when the page refreshes.

I looked at this bug again and just came to the realization that fixing Bug 1611643 might help. Linking it just in case.
