  • Fx101.0b7
  • Fx100.0.1 RC

Affected platforms

  • Windows 10
  • macOS
  • Ubuntu 20.04

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. Navigate to youtube and start playing a video.
  3. Refresh the tab with the video.
  4. After the page is refreshed press CTRL+SHIFT+] to launch PiP for the video.
  5. Click the play button on the PiP window.

Expected result

  • Video starts playing.

Actual result

  • Nothing happens.

Regression range

  • Will come bag with a regression range ASAP.

Additional notes

  • The issue also occurs on vimeo.
  • The issue seems to be particularly affected by the block autoplay feature, since this can't be reproduced on websites like twitch, where the livestream starts playing after a page refresh.
  • Might be similar to 1768202.

I don't think there is a regression range for this particular bug, mainly because the issue is reproducing ever since PiP got implemented.
As a workaround, if the user focuses anywhere on the video/page after the page refresh, autoplay will start normally and the issue does not reproduce.
