Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. Go to the about:addons -> Themes page.
  3. Enable cheers - bold or abstract - bold theme.
  4. Enable the sidebar (press Cmd+B or CTRL+B).

Expected result

  • Search field characters matches the Figma specs and theme color.

Actual result

  • Grey characters in search box.

  • Might be a regression due to recent changes to the field.

This is not a regression, the search characters (for the Cheers- bold theme) are not matching the Figma specs ever since the theme was first added in Nightly 94.0a1 (Build ID: 20210922094736).

That search box would be quite difficult to style. Unlike other inputs in Firefox, it is a system component. The OS provides all of its styles. Theming it would be quite a lot of work and introduce new complexity in our platform style code. I'm going to close this WONTFIX since I don't think the benefit outweighs the cost.
