Affected versions

  • Firefox esr 78.1.0

Affected platforms

  • macOS 11

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox
  2. Access Google Maps
  3. Click on Map on bottom left of the screen to activate the "Satelite" mode
  4. Scroll out completely in order to trigger the left menu with all the planets
  5. Select any planet

Expected result

  • There is a 3d animation rendering while transitioning to the planet

Actual result

  • A 2D map is nearly instantly loaded and can only zoom in and out a bit

Regression range

  • I don't think this is a regression, as it is happening only on macOS 11

Additional notes

  • The issue can be seen in the following attachment
  • Firefox 80.0b5 and 81.0a1 are not affected

Recommended Severity

  • S3
Blocks: 1648487
Has Regression Range: --- → no
Has STR: --- → yes
OS: Unspecified → macOS
Hardware: Unspecified → Desktop

After more testing, it seems that 80.0b6 and 81.0a1 are affected as well, and by doing the following STR.

  1. Launch Firefox
  2. Access Google Maps
  3. Click on Map on bottom left of the screen to activate the "Satelite" mode
  4. Scroll out completely in order to trigger the left menu with all the planets
  5. Select any planet
  6. While the animation transition is in progress, scroll with the mouse

After that, the page will become black. See attachment for actual issue.

Severity: normal → --

I can't reproduce this issue on Firefox 68.11esr, 79, 80.0b8 on macOS 10.15.6. Perhaps it's a platform issue for macOS 11.

Severity: -- → S4

I can not reproduce this on macOS 11 Beta 5 (20A5354i) with 78.2.0esr.

It is reproducible with 68.12.0esr on Beta 5.

ESR 78 will be required for macOS 11 and although we don't know when macOS 11 will ship, we expect ESR 68 to have transitioned to ESR 78 by that time.

@Catalin, is this still reproducible for you with the latest macOS 11 Beta and Firefox ESR 78.2.0?

Hello Haik. Sorry for the late response. I was in pto.

I couldn't quite reproduce the issue under Beta 81.0b7, unless I kept scrolling the mouse wheel or by touchpad while the planets transition animations is done, then the screen will remain black and in the location bar, the link will have NaN instead of numerical points for locations. This can be seen in the attachment.
