Details

Affected versions

  • latest Nightly 74.0a1
  • Beta 73.0b12
  • Release 72.0.2

Affected platforms

  • macOS 10.14

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. Open the Find bar (CMD + F).
  3. Search for a random term.
  4. Open a new window.
  5. Open a new private window.

Expected result

  • Step [4] and [5], The searched term is not kept in Find bar on neither of the windows.

Actual result

  • Step [4] and [5] The searched term is kept in Find bar on normal window and private window.

Regression range

  • Not a regression, I was able to reproduce this on older builds as well, e.g. Nightly 53.0a1 (20161202030204). It seems that I cannot open older builds than this date via mozregression.

Additional notes

  • The issue is not reproducible on Win and Ubuntu.

Hi Ciprian,

This is a feature! On OSX, we integrate with the special find-clipboard, which is where a string is copied to whenever you use a find input field in an app. For example, search for an email in Email.app, switch to Firefox and you'll find that the the string is filled in to the input field when you press CMD+f.

This works the same for any window, also for Private ones. There's no privacy concern here and Mac usability guidelines trump here too.
