Reproducible on latest 40.0a1 (2015-05-10)
Affected platforms: Mac OS X 10.9.5 and Ubuntu 14.04 x64

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Firefox with a clean profile.
2. Navigate to a Reader View compatible page, e.g. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/03/30/the-path-toward-tomorrows-internet/

Expected result:
The Reader View promo panel is displayed.

Actual result:
The Reader View promo panel is displayed and automatically dismissed.

Notes:
1. Not reproducible on Windows 7 x64 nor Windows 8.1 x86
2. Screencast: https://goo.gl/NkewDG
Also reproducible on Firefox 38.0.5b1 (20150510205200).
Any idea why this is only happening on OSX and Linux?

I suspect this is related to the function getting called multiple times due to subframes which probably aren't relevant to reader view and should be ignored. I think it should happen the same on every platform but perhaps a different ad network on sub-frames were served.

Dolske, can you find an owner for this?

AboutReaderListener.handleEvent() is filtering out subframe events, so that shouldn't be the cause here.

Alas I can't reproduce this with the URL in comment 0.

Severity: normal → S3

This issue is not reproducible anymore using the latest Firefox 124.0 build on Ubuntu 22 and macOS 12 ARM. I'm closing it as WFM.
