User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:34.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/34.0 Build ID: 20141126041045 Steps to reproduce: Create a clean profile (firefox -p), launch Firefox and browse some general websites such reddit or 9gag. Watch as memory usage grows, then close all tabs and wait. (Windows 7 64 bit, 4GB total RAM, nothing particularly weird about the setup. Reproduced it on 2 different PCs.) Actual results: Firefox remains occupying a lot of RAM. Nor waiting nor pressing "Minimize memory usage"/"GC" buttons help. I usually end up killing the process. Example stats from Process Explorer: Private bytes: 729,912 K Working set: 1,753,756 K Handles: 1,597 Not how Working set is more than 2x private bytes, which is unusual. Also, these are very peculiar stats that about:memory is showing (at 0 other tabs!): (top of the report) 257.31 MB (100.0%) -- explicit allocation (bottom of the report) ... 1,163.27 MB ── gpu-shared ... 705.25 MB ── private 1,704.38 MB ── resident 2,486.19 MB ── vsize 1,163.96 MB ── vsize-max-contiguous It might be relevant that when I open Firefox after killing it, often the Restore tab is empty and lose my tabs. Expected results: Firefox should return to its minimal memory usage, which is about 200-300 MB for both Private bytes and Working set. Such is the usage of RAM when Firefox is started.

Hello Reporter, thank you for contacting us regarding this issue and sorry for getting back to you late. I was trying to duplicate the issue with exactly the same steps that you mentioned on Windows 7 machine using the latest version of Firefox but could not reproduce the issue. Name Firefox Version 43.0.3 Build ID 20151223140742 Update Channel release User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 As soon as I opened these websites in new tabs, memory started going up but after a certain point it stabilized. It was fluctuating within a certain range but it didn't keep growing. If you have not done so, may I request you to upgrade your firefox to the latest released version and check this again and let us know your feedback.
