Verified on Ubuntu 11.04 x86, Mac OS X 10.6, WinXP, Win7 x86 using the following steps:
 1. Enter Panorama
 2. Double click inside of a group

A new tab is no longer created - setting status to Verified.

Not sure if this is really the place for this, but a feature to 'tear off' a tab group and drop it as a new window would be fantastic
So the large blank space serves only for moving the group, and when I'd like to add a new tab, I have to carefully click on the little button that I did not notice before Fx7? Another nice step to make me dislike Fx more.
Hope to see this working as before in Ubuntu. It has been so intuitive using the Panorama so far!
